Biography
Much of my work in recent years has been concerned with my birthplace - Zimbabwe. A once utopic country now ruined by a dictatorship. The frustration of watching Zimbabwean people suffer at the hands of a corrupt government, and not being able to go home and live where I want to be is at the heart of much of my work.
Cultural identity and belonging are also a focus within my work, being central to my upbringing in Africa. My work often calls into question cultural stereotypes and preconceived notions of belonging. Africa’s diverse beauty and rich heritage are a powerful source of inspiration. My recent work has included screen prints of traditional African imagery on traditional English prints such as wallpapers, fabrics and lace curtains. I hope to engage an audience by immersing them into a fusion of cultures and challenging further debate on identities and what it means to "belong".
